Where is Shear-Vue Farmstay?
We are located 10 minutes east of Fairlie, in the South Island of New Zealand.
Our address is: 242 Cricklewood Road, Fairlie.
How far away is the closest town?
Fairlie (population 885) is a 10-minute drive. Tekapo is a 40-minute drive. Timaru is a 40-minute drive and is the closest big town (population 48,400).

What is the farm tour about?
A guided farm tour is included in the price of your accommodation. It is 1-hour long and family-friendly. Each tour is unique as it depends what is currently happening on the farm during your visit, and this changes with the seasons. Lambs and calves start to arrive in late August, and you'll have the opportunity to bottle feed them from late August to December/January.
Can I book a farm tour only, without accommodation?

The spa pool
The spa pool is available for your own exclusive use during your stay. It's a salt spa, which uses less chemicals than older style spas. The pool seats 4–6 guests and towels are provided.
Is the accommodation suitable for children?
Yes, children are most welcome! There is a highchair, portacot, toys, and trampoline.
Can I bring my pets?
We're sorry but pets are not allowed as Shear-Vue Farmstay is on a working beef and sheep farm.
Is breakfast included in the price?
Yes, we provide cereal, milk, pancake mix, yoghurt, farm fresh eggs (in season), condiments, spreads, tea and coffee.
What is provided in the kitchen?
There is a full kitchen with an oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, jug, rice cooker, toasted sandwich maker, pots, pans, utensils, salt, pepper, and oil.
Is there a washing machine and dryer?
Yes, there is a coin-operated washing machine and dryer. We provide washing powder.
What is provided in the bathroom?
We provide towels, handsoap, and body wash.
Can I drink the tap water?
Yes, the tap water is suitable for drinking.
Is there parking available?
There is lots of parking space outside the cottage.
Can I smoke or vape inside?
No, the interior of the cottage is smoke and vape free. You can smoke outside but please place cigarette butts in the ashtray provided, thank you.
Can I walk around the farm by myself?
You will need to do the farm tour first as it includes a health and safety briefing, as well as the hazards you need to be aware of. After your farm tour, you are welcome to walk around the farm but if you go through any gates, you must shut them behind you.
Do you have gumboots I can borrow?
Yes, we have gumboots in a range of sizes for our guests to use.
COVID-19
We are fully vaccinated. We also do an enhanced clean of our accommodation, and we provide hand sanitiser for guests.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is after 2pm and check-out is at 10am.
Can I request an early check-in or late check-out?
You can request an early check-in or late check-out but this must be arranged in advance, thank you.
Are there restaurants and cafes nearby?
There are restaurants and cafes in Fairlie, a 10-minute drive. There are also restaurants and cafes in Tekapo and Timaru, both a 40-minute drive. There is no delivery service to Shear-Vue Farmstay.
Where is the nearest pharmacy or hospital?
The nearest pharmacy is in Fairlie, a 10-minute drive. It's open 9am to 5.30pm. Call: 03 685 8164
